The 'An Rathbeag' National Looped Walk is the shorter of the two looped walks in beautiful Glenpatrick Woods. An Rathbeag is Waterford’s smallest ring fort. The views on this walk are spectacular and unique. The trail passes close to Carrigsheegowna - a large sandstone knoll - it’s an amazing sight, it's featured prominently in the 1975 film, "Barry Lyndon". Carrigsheegowna in Irish is "Carrig Sui Gamhna" which translates as "the sitting rock of the calves". The trail leads you parallel to the striking and breathtaking Knockanaffrin Ridge in the Comeragh Mountains and if you look just beyond it you can make out "the Asses' Ears", the twin pinnacles of Crotty's Rock, named after William Crotty, the rapparee hanged in Ballybricken in 1742. Under Knockanaffrin lies Lough Mohra, the longer loop walk and second trail in these fabulous woods.
