Location: Enniscorthy Co.Wexford

Listing Description

The National 1798 Rebellion Centre is a popular heritage experience located in Enniscorthy, County Wexford. Dedicated to exploring the Irish Rebellion of 1798, the centre introduces visitors to the key figures of the Rebellion through audiovisual exhibitions and interactive activities. On your visit you will meet the key figures of the Rebellion, participate in our state of the art 4D battle of Vinegar Hill Experience. Today Vinegar Hill forms an iconic backdrop to the town of Enniscorthy but it was the location of a fierce battle during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Irish insurgents, led by Father Murphy, camped on Vinegar hill and flew their banner from the windmill, the shell of which remains today. Visitors will discover in detail how some 20,000 insurgents faced the might of 10,000 well-trained and well-armed Crown Forces. A spectacular audiovisual presentation places the story in an international context and an exhibition explores authentic weapons from the period. Our in house cafe is open centre hours with lunch menu provided.
